Moon Copal Resin is considered one of the most sophisticated ingredients in Witchcraft. It comes from a tree species indigenous in Mexico (and Mesoamerica). Furthermore, the name ‘Copal‘ comes from the ancient civilisations predating Colombus. It means ‘incense‘ in Aztec language. As witches used it in diverse spells, one thing was always common. Although it was used to summon and please the dead, at the same time it helped the Witches vibrate higher and cleanse themselves.
(Moon) Copal Resin in Witchcraft
Since the ancient times, Moon Copal has been used extensively in shamanic rites to honor the Dead. Although, it is still used in the Mexican Day of the Dead, this rites have begun in the pre-Colombian Mesoamerican tribes and civilisations. However, old Witches used Copal for many reasons:
- Witches used it in healing ceremonies as its warm and soothing aroma can help the healer overcome the physical and psychic obstacles.
- Furthermore, Copal is used to cleanse and uplift the space and elevate our consciousness. Therefore, it was used in cleansing houses and spaces from baneful energies. It usually added Sandalwood, Palo Santo and Frankincense.
- For the same reason, Witches used the smoke of Copal to cleanse sacred and magical objects. They passed crystals and other items over the smoke chanting.
- Finally, as it helps calm down the energies, it is used to hypnotise other and in meditation. For this reason they usually added Myrrh.
